INTERVIEW WITH TEXAS-BASED PRODUCER RYAN BENT
Hammarica.com | EDM News Network.
How would you classify your music? | Upbeat house music that brings anthemic 90’s feel with catchy pop style hooks. |
---|---|
Who are some of your top 5 musical influences? | MK Gorgon City 90’s Dance music(The Prodigy, Fatboy Slim) Depeche Mode New Order |
What do you want fans to take from your music? | Does it create a timestamp in your life, are you able to remember when and where you were the first time you heard one my records. |
What is the best concert you have been to? What do you like most about playing live? | Swedish House Maffia when they were touring for their album Paradise Again. Live shows are great because you feed off the energy of the crowd. It becomes synergistic because what you bring the crowd feeds off of and vice versa |
Is there a song on your latest CD release here that stands out as your personal favorite, and why? | This is a single, I enjoyed making this song as the groove came from experimenting in the studio with my samplers. I had a great vocal and chords developed, but to make the track memorable I knew I couldn’t go with basic four to the floor drums so I started to chop up drum samples in my Akai and incorporate a breakbeat stye which solidified the emotional character of the record. |
How have you evolved as an artist over the last year? | I would argue that sound design is important aspect of identifying what your sound is as an artists, so over the past year I’ve continued to evolve my sonic characteristics and experiment with different sounds to increase my sound palate for music productions. |
If you could meet, play a gig, co-write a song, have dinner, have a drink with any band or artist (dead or alive) who would it be? | That’s always an interesting question, and I would say that sometimes someone you co-write with may not be the best person to have dinner or grab a drink with. But to answer you.. I would love to do a with gig Fisher, the energy he brings to his sets are magnetic. Because of my appreciation for hooks, it would be amazing to co-write a track with Max Martin, the knowledge you would get on writing catchy melodies is priceless. Grabbing a drink hands down would be Diplo, you know that dude likes to party, but I would also be down to co-write with him as well. There’s so many answers to that one. |
What’s next for you? | I want to continue growing as producer, start working with more vocalist, and look into doing more shows. That’s something I haven’t done that often, so opening more opportunities there would be exciting. |
