Dutch born Jochem Hamerling moved to the USA to complete high school at Plainfield South. Witnessing Chicago house legends like Derrick Carter and Paul Johnson. He was 100% sold from that moment on. When he returned home after graduating he hit the ground running, playing more clubs and producing more music, which resulted in his first record deals. With releases out on labels like Black Hole, Dirty Soul, Zouk Recordings and Abzolut Records, we are delighted to have him for an exclusive at Hammarica.com

Do you keep pets and are they allowed in your studio?

I don’t have pets. but when I do they can all help me produce new music! =]

What is the longest time you consecutively spent working in the studio on a track?

I think an entire day. The track I just released took a lot of work. It was the first time I worked together with my cousin. We both had lots of different opinions so we had to work our way through that. But I think the result is great! Our first collaboration is out now through Blackhole’s Wildlife Records and there are more releases coming

Avicii should ________

continue what he does now.

You can say what you want about Avicii but he sure knows what he is doing. I don’t play his tracks, but I do have great respect for his production skills.

Carl Cox recently turned 50 and is still rocking the major festivals. Do you see yourself DJing at his age or would you retire from DJ life?

If I still love the music as much as I do now I am sure I will still be playing records. Maybe on the major festivals, maybe in my bedroom. But please

How do you envision your life in 10 years from now?

I hope that I can still do the things that I love.

What is your favorite city to play at?

I always love Amsterdam. The variety of people, the variety of clubs. I live in Utrecht. but Amsterdam feels like home!

What is the current hottest track on your memory stick?

I don’t really have one track that is hottest. I refresh my library every week and try to be as up to date as possible. I play a lot of stuff from labels like Viva Music, 100%Pure, 1605 and of course my own releases.

My new release that is out now on Black Hole Recordings is a solid one for my warm up sets and I still play Mountain Dew a lot. I made that one with my good friends Lavardi and Daniel Gonzales. We released it beginning of this year on our own label Groove Department Recordings.

If you could give one production tip insight to new producers out there, what would that be?

Finish your tracks! Even if you are not too sure about it. Finish it and listen to it again after a few months. You might want to throw the entire thing away, but I usually like parts of the track and use those parts to work on something new.

Did David Guetta deserve the number 1 position in 2011?

Yes. the dj mag poll is about popularity and he is the most popular DJ. If the poll was about the best DJ he shouldn’t make the top 100.

What was your first record you bought?

My first maxi single was DJ Jurgen – Better Off Alone. I knew the original version but I didn’t even know there was such a thing as remixes or club mixes. It opened a complete new world for me. From that moment on I bought everything that had the words club mix on it.

Is there a final thing you would like to say to our readers?

It takes a lot of hard work and dedication. but if you want to reach your goal. go for it!
